Record-breaking assist-maker from Panathinaikos joins Joe Arlauckas
In the third episode of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague's new podcast, The Crossover with Joe Arlauckas, a record-breaking passer and former competition champion, point guard Nick Calathes, tells the story of how he became the latest in a long line of iconic leaders for the most successful club of the Final Four era, Panathinaikos OPAP Athens.
Calathes, a surname that means "basket" in Greek, owes not only his heritage, but also his love of basketball, to his grandfather, who emigrated from Greece at age 19. It was his grandfather who helped instill in Calathes a love for the sport and attended all of his games as a kid.
"He was a huge part of my basketball career, unfortunately, he passed away when I was 17," Calathes tells Joe Arlauckas. "For me, every time I step on the court and put on the Greek jersey, I thank him for giving me the opportunity to play for this country."
With a one-hour format of exclusive one-on-one interviews, The Crossover with Joe Arlauckas goes well beyond the playing court with each podcast to delve into the life experiences that have made his guests who they are today – stars of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
The Crossover debuted with Olympiacos Piraeus head coach David Blatt and has since featured Fabien Causeur of Real Madrid. After Calathes, the next edition will feature Aleksandar Dzikic, coach of Buducnost VOLI Podgorica. The Crossover with Joe Arlauckas is available on Audioboom, iTunes, Spotify, Castbox, RadioPublic, Google Podcasts and other platforms.
