The Crossover podcast with Kyle Hines

The three-time EuroLeague champ from CSKA joins Joe Arlauckas

In the sixth episode of The Crossover with Joe Arlauckas podcast, Kyle Hines of CSKA Moscow, a three-time Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion and two-time Best Defender Trophy winner, recounts his career as an undersized and often underestimated center who chose basketball precisely because it was the one sport that challenged him the most.

"It was the lack of success that I had that drew me to basketball. I got cut from my eighth-grade team – the whole Michael Jordan story. It was devastating to me," Hines says. "Until that time, I had never had failure of any kind. And I told myself, 'You know what? I want to excel at this because it's something that I'm not good at and didn't necessarily come natural to me to begin with.' From that moment on, I dropped everything else and said I'm going to play basketball. And you know the rest of the story."

The CSKA captain also talks about how a gift from his grandmother shaped his destiny, how his wife is his biggest fan and greatest basketball critic, and how much it means to him to give back to the game and help future players. And few people can offer such unique insights into both the glory and the bitterness of defeat at the Final Four.

Hines also reveals the exciting new project he has been working on with Euroleague Basketball for his own podcast based on players sharing their experiences with each other. The first episode is coming later this month and features Kyle and his CSKA teammate, Sergio "El Chacho" Rodriguez. Even before that debut, however, Kyle will be hosting an Instagram Q&A for fans to help him choose the name of his new podcast. Stay tuned for details!

With a one-hour format of exclusive one-on-one interviews, The Crossover with Joe Arlauckas goes well beyond the playing court with each podcast to delve into the life stories of EuroLeague players, coaches and legends. The Crossover debuted with Olympiacos Piraeus head coach David Blatt and has featured stars like Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens, and Jayson Granger of KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, among others. The next edition will put Robertas Javtokas, former EuroLeague champion and current Zalgiris Kaunas Sports Director, in the chair next to Joe Arlauckas.
