Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 24 MVP: Ante Tomic, FC Barcelona Lassa

In an emotional El Clásico on Friday night, FC Barcelona Lassa held off arch-rival Real Madrid 77-70 behind a stellar performance from team captain Ante Tomic, who earned the MVP of the Round honor for Round 24. Tomic finished the game with 22 points on 9-for-16 two-point and 4-for-6 free-throw shooting, while pulling down 13 rebounds and dishing 3 assists. It was Tomic's first double-double of the season, and he accumulated a performance index rating of 28, the highest on winning teams in Round 24. This marks the seventh MVP honor of Tomic's career and his first since almost four years ago. The highest PIR of this round, but in a losing effort, belonged to Alexey Shved of Khimki Moscow Region, who returned in style after a 14-game absence for injury. In a dramatic 88-90 home defeat at the hands of AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan, Shved scored 23 points and dished 11 assists on the way to an index rating of 29. Olympiacos Piraeus big man Zach LeDay came next with a PIR of 28, just like Tomic, but his team lost 81-97 to visiting CSKA Moscow. LeDay paced Olympiacos with a game-high 21 points and 9 rebounds. Rounding out the list of top performers in Round 24 were Barcelona point guard Thomas Heurtel and KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz swingman Shavon Shields, each with a PIR 27. Heurtel scored 17 points, had 10 assists and 3 rebounds, while Shields helped Baskonia sink Zalgiris Kaunas with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Individual leaders: Kyle Hines, CSKA Moscow, 4 blocks

Shved's 23 points led all players this round. Shved averages 25.0 points this season, but does not qualify for top overall ranking for lack of total games played. First place belongs to Milan's Mike James at 20.0 points per game. Tomic's 13 rebounds were the most in Round 24. Nikola Milutinov of Olympiacos remains the top rebounder this season with 7.7 per game. Sergio Rodriguez of CSKA dished 12 assists to lead all players in that category. Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens is the season-long assists leader with 8.3 per game. Marius Grigonis of Zalgiris had a career-high 4 steals, more than any other player this week. Toney Douglas of Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul is the season leader with 1.8 steals per game. CSKA center Kyle Hines tied his career high with 4 blocks, the most in Round 24. Madrid's Walter Tavares is the league's shot-blocking leader with 1.7 per contest. There were five double-doubles in this round. Tomic had 22 points and 13 rebounds, Shved had 23 points and 11 assists, Shields had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Rodriguez finished with 15 points and 12 assists, and Heurtel had 17 points and 10 assists.
