The Crossover podcast welcomes Vassilis Spanoulis

Three-time EuroLeague champion chats with Joe Arlauckas for an insightful hour

One of the greatest clutch players in the game, Olympiacos Piraeus guard Vassilis Spanoulis, sits down next to Joe Arlauckas to discuss his legendary career on the latest episode of The Crossover podcast.

A former EuroLeague MVP and the Final Four MVP each of the three times he led his team to the continental crown – with Panathinaikos Athens in 2009 and with Olympiacos in 2012 and 2013 – Spanoulis has been a model for how hard work, dedication and passion can pave one's way to success.

"You never know when it will be your time," Spanoulis said. "You never know when your dreams will come true to win the EuroLeague. You can just put in the work and hunt your target."

Spanoulis expounded on that topic with a lesson for young basketball players everywhere.

"Many kids they say they put the work in and they immediately want to see the results," Spanoulis explained to The Crossover listeners. "And after this, they say, 'Why? I'm working so hard! The ball doesn't fall in, my shots don't fall in!' It's not about now after one day, after one month. Maybe your work will be effective after one year, after eight months, after two years. You never know. You just have to work hard."

Among the many interesting subjects that came up was Spanoulis's 2010 move from Panathinaikos Athens to its archrival Olympiacos, a topic the guard rarely talks about.

"It was the right team at the right time for me. This is what I thought. My heart told me this, to do it. It was a clear decision. I thought about it and I said, 'This is my destiny. This is my karma. I will follow it," Spanoulis said. "I have big, big confidence in myself that I can succeed. That's why I took the decision. You cannot take this decision just because you want to go there. You have to have confidence because you know all the pressure that you will face from the Olympiacos fans, who see you as someone who can take you to the title and after from Panathinaikos fans because you left their team."

With a one-hour format of exclusive one-on-one interviews, The Crossover with Joe Arlauckas goes well beyond the playing court with each podcast to delve into the life experiences that have made his guests protagonists and legends of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

The Crossover debuted with Olympiacos Piraeus head coach David Blatt and has since featured Nikola Vujcic of Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens and Robertas Javtokas of Zalgiris Kaunas, among others.
