7DAYS EuroCup Finals Game 1 MVP: Will Thomas, Valencia Basket |
|
Valencia Basket struck first in the 7DAYS EuroCup Finals and won the opening game of the series against ALBA Berlin, 89-75. The major driving force for the winners was veteran Will Thomas, who earned the MVP honor for Game 1. Thomas led the winners with a performance index rating of 25, thanks to 22 points – including 9 of 13 two-point shooting – to go with 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in 26 minutes on the court. Following him in Game 1 were his two teammates Sam Van Rossom and Bojan Dubljevic, each with a PIR of 17. However, the second-best individual performance in the game came from the losing side as guard Peyton Siva of ALBA continued with his impressive season and a PIR of 20. Siva netted 17 points, pulled 1 rebound and dished 7 assists.
Individual highs: Thomas leads all scorers with 22 points
Thomas was the best scorer of the game with his 22 points. Siva jumped to the top of the season rankings averaging 15.4 points per game. Dubljevic pulled more rebounds than anyone in the opening game of the finals with 8, but Jalen Reynolds of Zenit St Petersburg remains the best man under the glass this season with his average of 8.1. Siva was, once again, the best passer with his 7 assists and, unsurprisingly, leads the season rankings with 8.4 per game. Dubljevic and Rokas Giedraitis of ALBA collected 2 steals apiece but ratopharm Ulm's Javonte Green is still the best player in that category this season with an average of 2.5. Last but not least, the only blocks in Game 1 were for Joan Sastre of Valencia and Luke Sikma of ALBA, with 1 each. Eric Buckner of AS Monaco and Mathis Lessort of Unicaja Malaga top the leaderboards with 1.3 stops per game.
