Olympiacos holds a 12-8 edge over Zalgiris in EuroLeague games, but Zalgiris won five of six head-to-head games last season. The Lithuanian champs swept Olympiacos in the regular season and then ousted the Reds from the EuroLeague Playoffs with a 3-1 series win without the home-court advantage.
Zalgiris edged Olympiacos 78-87 in overtime in Game 1 of last season's and then clinched the series at home by winning 80-60 in Game 3 and 101-91 in Game 4. Zalgiris center Brandon Davies averaged a performance index rating of 19.8 along with 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks in that playoff series, helping him win MVP of April honors.
Zalgiris and Olympiacos faced each other in the 1999 Final Four in Munich, Germany. It was the first-ever official clash between these two sides and Zalgiris downed Olympiacos 87-71 in the semifinals behind 19 points from Anthony Bowie and went on to lift its first – and to date only – EuroLeague trophy.
Zalgiris forward Aaron White and his Olympiacos counterpart Janis Timma were teammates at Zenit St. Petersburg during the 2016-17 season.
Zalgiris head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius was a teammate at Panathinaikos Athens with Olympiacos guard Vassilis Spanoulis for three seasons, from 2007 to 2010. The two won the 2009 EuroLeague title together.
