EuroLeague RS -  Round 8 MVP: Toko Shengelia, FC Barcelona

A career-best performance in a thrilling FC Barcelona road victory has seen Toko Shengelia earn MVP of the Round honors for Round 8. The 34-year-old veteran paced his team to a 76-78 win at Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade with a career-high performance index rating of 42 in his 291st EuroLeague appearance.

Shengelia scored 24 points on 4-for-5 two-pointers, 2-of-3 three-pointers and 10-of-12 free throws. He also had 5 rebounds, 5 assists and a career-best 4 steals, without committing turnovers and drawing 9 drawn fouls. This is Shengelia’s ninth career MVP of the Round honor and his first in almost two years.

The next best PIR, 29, belongs to Partizan center Tyrique Jones, who had a near triple-double performance with 15 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz guard Matteo Spagnolo paced Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz to an 86-75 win over Anadolu Efes Istanbul with 19 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds for a PIR of 28. Codi Miller-McIntyre had a 26 PIR for Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade in a 92-99 win over Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv. He had a 23-point, 12-assist double-double in addition to pulling down 4 rebounds. Rounding out the list of Round 8’s top performers is Nikola Milutinov, who had a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double and 3 steals for Olympiacos Piraeus in a 62-58 win over Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv.


Individual highs: Mamadi Diakite, Baskonia, 5 blocks

Kendrick Nunn of Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens led all players in this round with 26 points. Paris Basketball guard Nadir Hifi leads the league with 22.3 points per game.

Tyrique Jones and Nikola Milutinov each pulled down 13 rebounds, the most in Round 8. Milutinov is the league’s leading rebounder with 8.3 per game.

Codi Miller-McIntyre dished 12 assists, more than any other player in this round. Miller-McIntyre is one of three players, along with Sylvain Francisco of Zalgiris Kaunas and Mike James of AS Monaco, averaging a league-high 6.8 assists.

Stefan Jovic of FC Bayern Munich made a round-high 5 steals. Hifi tops the steals charts with 1.9 per game.

Mamadi Diakite of Baskonia had 5 blocks, the most in this round. Walter Tavares of Real Madrid is the EuroLeague top shot-blocker this season with 1.8 rejections on average.

Three players had a double-double in Round 8: Miller-McIntyre (23 points, 12 assists), Tyrique Jones (15 points, 13 rebounds) and Milutinov (10 points, 13 rebounds).
