VALENCIA BASKET:
DID YOU KNOW?
|
| |
Valencia is a four-time BKT EuroCup champion, lifting the trophy in 2003, 2010, 2014 and 2019. No other team has won the EuroCup more than twice.
Valencia could become the fourth team to win both the EuroLeague and EuroCup titles. Real, Joventut and Virtus Bologna have done so previously.
Valencia could become the first team in the 21st century to win the EuroLeague title in its first-ever Final Four. Zalgiris Kaunas was the last team to achieve that, in 1999.
All Valencia players are in their first Final Four. The last Final Four MVP to win the award on his first appearance was Andres Nocioni of Real Madrid in 2015. The last team to reach the Final Four with no players with previous Final Four experience was Zalgiris Kaunas in 2018.
Pedro Martinez could win a second European title, 36 years after his first. He led Joventut to the 1990 Korac Cup title. It would be an unprecedented achievement in European sport. In football, the record belongs to Sven-Goran Eriksson, who had 17 years between two European titles (Goteborg, 1982 UEFA Cup; Lazio, 1999 Cup Winners' Cup).
Martinez is the first person to win both the EuroLeague Coach of the Year and EuroCup Coach of the Year honors. He won the Alexander Gomelsky EuroLeague Coach of the Year this season, and is a two-time EuroCup Coach of the Year, in 2016-17 and 2024-25.
Braxton Key could join a very select group of players to have won both the NCAA Tournament and the EuroLeague title. He won the NCAA Tournament with Virginia in 2019. Only four players have achieved both: Tyus Edney and Jiri Zidek (UCLA 1995, Zalgiris 1999), Drew Nicholas (Maryland 2002, Panathinaikos 2009, 2011) and Tony Delk (Kentucky 1996, Panathinaikos 2007).
Matt Costello reached the NCAA Final Four with Michigan State University and has now reached the EuroLeague Final Four with Valencia.
Jean Montero is the first player to win both the EuroLeague Rising Star and EuroCup Rising Star awards. He was named the 2025-26 EuroLeague Rising Star, a year after winning the equivalent award in the 2024-25 EuroCup.
Montero is the first Valencia player to earn All-EuroLeague Team honors. Dusko Savanovic made the 2010-11 EuroLeague Second Team while playing for Valencia.
Montero could become the first Dominican player to win the EuroLeague. Andres Feliz of Real Madrid, also from the Dominican Republic, is present at this year's Final Four.
Montero is one of four Rising Star Trophy winners at this Final Four. He was chosen as the Rising Star award winner this season. Usman Garuba of Real Madrid won it in 2020-21 and his teammate Gabriele Procida earned it in 2023-24. Kostas Papanikolaou of Olympiacos was the 2012-13 EuroLeague Rising Star.
Kameron Taylor and Yankuba Sima could win a third consecutive European title in as many years. They helped Unicaja win back-to-back BCL titles in 2024 and 2025.
Brancou Badio could become the third Senegalese player to win the EuroLeague. Only Boniface Ndong (FC Barcelona, 2010) and Eli Ndiaye (Real Madrid, 2023) have done so previously.
Xabi Lopez-Arostegui and Jaime Pradilla helped Spain win gold at EuroBasket 2022. Other EuroBasket champions present at the Final Four include Nando De Colo of Fenerbahce (France, 2013), Sergio Llull of Real (Spain, 2009, 2011, 2015) and his teammate Usman Garuba (Spain, 2022).
Darius Thompson of Valencia and Devon Hall of Fenerbahce were teammates at the University of Virginia, playing together for the Cavaliers in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns.
Valencia ranks second in scoring (90.4 ppg.), rebounds (38.0 rpg.) and assists (21.0 apg.) this season. It is third in PIR (103.5) and first in field goals made (32.4).
Valencia has become the seventh Spanish team to reach the Final Four since 1988, making Spain the country with the most such appearances, ahead of Italy. The other Spanish clubs are Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Joventut Badalona, Estudiantes, Unicaja Malaga and Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz. Italy has six: EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, Virtus Bologna, Fortitudo Bologna, Benetton Treviso, Scavolini Pesaro and Montepaschi Siena.
