The Crossover podcast welcomes Keith Langford
The two-time EuroLeague top scorer is Joe Arlauckas's latest guest
|
A familiar face to any Turkish Airlines EuroLeague fan, Keith Langford of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens, takes the seat next to Joe Arlauckas in the newest episode of The Crossover podcast.
Langford, who won the Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy twice in his previous seven EuroLeague seasons, has played for 14 teams in his pro career, and doesn't mind being called a journeyman, because his extraordinary skills were always in demand and his adaptability let him meet -- and surpass -- each new challenge.
"One thing as a pro I've learned is you have to be able to adapt," Langford tells Arlauckas.
Langford gives special importance to his relationship with former EuroLeague great J.R. Holden, his mentor from the time they were opponents in Moscow for Khimki and CSKA, respectively, earlier this decade.
"I was real fortunate because when I got to Russia, I met J.R. Holden, and it changed everything for me," Langford tells listeners. "I encourage anyone coming overseas now to just be great where you are. That was one of the things that J.R. told me. Doesn't matter where, just be great where you are."
Although his all-around game put Langford on the All-EuroLeague First Team in 2014, his reputation as a master scorer makes him an expert in that department, and his insights are telling
"Every time I've gone into a game and said I want to score or I need to score, I have a dud," he said. "You just have be natural, and do the right things for the right reasons."
Now 35, Langford is delighted to be back in the EuroLeague after a season away, especially since he had previously turned down a contract offer from Panathinaikos.
"This sport is unforgiving; you don't get second chances very often," he notes. "For me to turn Panathinaikos down once, and then for it to come back around, and have another chance, I was surprised. When I got the phone call, I told my agent, 'Don't negotiate any more on the money. Let's go, let's do it, this is my chance.'"
With a one-hour format of exclusive one-on-one interviews, The Crossover with Joe Arlauckas goes well beyond the playing court with each podcast to delve into the life experiences that have made his guests protagonists and legends of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
The Crossover debuted with Olympiacos Piraeus head coach David Blatt and has since featured Nikola Vujcic of Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens and Robertas Javtokas of Zalgiris Kaunas, among others. The Crossover with Joe Arlauckas is available on iTunes, Audioboom, Spotify, Deezer, RadioPublic, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, CastBox, Stitcher and other platforms.
